Trench coats mhm

Trench coats are back and big for spring/summer 2010 and I love it! Espcially this one underneath which is by Marc Jacob (it reminds me of the trench coat I own...that I got from Primark, bargain in my opinion!)

Inspiration

At the moment I am actually completly obsessed with the Ellie Goulding acoustic....really inspiring!

easter hols - back to the shire!

These past couple of weeks have been so hectic with creating my toile, I have learnt so much and taken alot on board so its nice to know I have two weeks to catch up on rest (and continue with my dress)

I'm pretty pleased with how my toile review went, all the tutors opinions seemed on par with mine and when creating my final dress I have taken on board to make the wavy pieces 4cm longer, as when the model walks along it will have more movement and look more effective. Although I had to re-make my toile many times I think as a result of this, I now have more knowledge on taking in clothes and taking clothes out, I am also much more confident on the sewing machine then I was when I first started in septemeber.

The next stage is to cut out my pattern peices on my final material, I'm not planning on starting to sew the garment till after easter though, as I would much prefer to use the uni sewing machines.

Construction continued...

Sooo today we carried on with our patterns, On Monday I re-drew my patterns as I had made a few errors, but I was ready to begin cutting the pattern out onto calico. Placing the pattern pieces took longer then expected due to advice from a tutor in that the way I was laying my pattern out was economically wasteful- so bearing this in mind, I tried to think of the best possible way to cut the pattern out. When I had sewn the darts in and put the outfit together I realised that the top half was too big, so adjusted this by taking out 1cm- I later came to see that in order to remove the right amount you have to pin the garment from both sides and measure from both as opposed to having all the material on one side which would equal in just taking material more off one side.

Near the end of the day I became quite stressed as each time I adjusted the outfit it still didn't fit the manikin! but I still have a week left to complete it and each mistake I make I bear in mind whilst constructing the rest of the garment.

Another claim to fame! haha :)

Continuing patterns....

I finished my pattern at the weekend, which I was very pleased with, I feel since the beginning of September I have actually began to realise pattern cutting isn't THAT difficult, Once I began to understand all the measurements and how to use the pattern master properly all of the other aspects fell into place.

On Monday we checked my pattern by walking the pieces round....only to find out some pieces didn't fit (back to the drawing board!!!) Basically I just re-measured, corrected my mistakes and then re-traced! - I think in some ways its good I make these mistakes I begin to think more outside the box and eventually will stop making these mistakes.

Designs become reality....

With my flat drawing, illustration and pattern cutting equipment I began the day in a dazed and very confused state! I didn't really have a clue where to start and was very worried about beginning the pattern. Basically to start with I decided I would need to use a 'Bodice block' to create the top half of my dress, after much measuring and drawing out I needed help as the front and back pieces didn't match...we then found out I had done it wrong! After two failed attempts I finally began to successfully draw out my pattern.

At the moment its a working progress but tomorrow I'm planing on finishing the pattern, adding seam allowance and cutting it all out...

I was surprised how much I enjoyed pattern cutting today as I normally struggle a lot and I did struggle but I feel I have improved so much since we first began! so overall a very unexpected successful day!

p.s...

Tomorrow we are starting to make our toile for our manifesto project...nervous? yes, but also very excited about the thought of my ideas going from just drawings to actual clothing!

Buying and Merchandising...

Ok so finally I am (kind of) starting to understand this buying and merchandising merlarky!...and its only taken me like what more then a month!?!

In todays lecture we have been talking about 'points of difference' and 'The principles of OPTIONS/TRUE CHOICE'. We discussed how an option must represent genuine variety and real choice, rather then having really similar clothing which would confuse the customer.

Also now that I'm slowly starting to understand everything I'm starting to enjoy the lectures alot more!....now I just need to get one with my project for it! :)

Picking designs....

Today we had to pick our final 6 designs :) I was in a small group with Mary and steph and also karen and pat; our tutors. We had to show them our designs, and tell them what materials we are going to make our final out of and how we are going to go about making the garment!

I am really pleased with my final outcomes, I just need to re-draw them out and present neatly! I'm quite worried about creating the actual pattern but hopefully once I get stuck in, everything will fall into place!

On-off

Haha found a photo with me in the background at LFW.....I was dreading finding photos were I've been by accidently caught in the background!!!!!!! Ah what a memorable week though!!!!!!
