Last lectra lesson of this term...

Ok so today was our last day on Lectra for this term, we spent today just mucking around with different patterns such as circle skirts and pivoting darts (which on Lectra is SOOO much easier and quicker then doing by hand!) I have enjoyed using Lectra to create my jersey pattern and I look forward to using Lectra more in the future! The project also has to be handed in tomorrow, but as I was away for a week in London we have the option to hand in next week, but I'm hoping I'l have finished everything so I can hand it in tomorrow! (fingers crossed!)

On-Off fashion week crazy-ness...

Omg what a week its been...seriously I have never been sooo tired in my entire life, but worth it? er yes totally!
I have gained so much knowladge and understanding into how the world of fashion shows work, believe me its not all glamour!!! but overall the week was really enjoyable, I met some great people and saw some AMAZING designs and shows!

I spent the week doing the following tasks:
  • backstage; dressing models, going on food runs (spent £100 in pret for the models!) cleaning up after shows, collecting things for the designers.
  • general odd body; moving boxes (I have NEVER seen sooo much evian water before!), moving manikins to go in the exhibtion, moving plinths, cleaning...more cleanin
  • Front of house; sometimes had to help out front of house as not enough people turned up, basically had to stand about when the general public were in- to give them advice if they needed, also had to stand at very front of house, holding umbrellas with 'ON-OFF' on them for advertisment
  • Party; helped out in the evening with one of the parties!, was very tough working from 10:00am-12:00am but we mananged it!, spent the evening collecting glasses, cleaning broken glass, collecting things for people, standing around guiding people/guarding the out of bounds area, also ended up serving champagne for the sugababes! (not something that happens every day!) was really good to help out and I enjoyed listening to the music and meeting some very random fashion-istas!

throughout the week I helped out backstage with these shows: Ashley Isham, Mr & Mr, Belle Sauvage and Falguni & Shane Peacock!

and my favourite shows were definatly:Falguni & Shane Peacock, Pam Hogg and Ziad Ghanem

I thouroulgy enjoyed the week and am hoping to possibly go back and help again sometime in the future!

Illustrations...again...

heres another of my illustrations for my design project, just playing round with the idea of having my manifesto behind the final images... (these aren't the final designs though)

alsooo....

LONDON FASHION WEEK IS LITERALLY DAYS AWAY...eeeeek! I actually cannot wait to see what everything is like! I'm working backstage group B, I'll be working during ASHLEY ISHAM, JUSTINE J SMITH and ZIAD GHANEM's shows!! I'm also helping out on the Sunday evening at one of the parties. I spect you'll all hear muchhh more about this when I get back!!!! :D

fashion with a purpose??

Along with my material sample & pictures of modelling on the stand I thought I'd upload some of my rough sketches :) which obviously aren't that great, but are OK as are just rough idea sketches!!! I'm liking the one in the middle most I think so I'm gonna carry on doing designs and hopefully end up with one I really like! (also the line through the middle is actually meant to be there...is text but is too small to see; I'm playing with the idea of having my manifesto speech behind my final illustrations, but I need to work out how to do this without taking the attention away from the clothing!)

Modelling on the stand for design inspiration

Fabric samples for design project

this is a material sample for my design project which is based on the theme of 'the darker side of fairytales'. This is one of my favourite samples, so I'm planning on using it in my final design, possibly as the top of the dress.

catch up blog #3!

OK so it seems this year I'm slowly beginning to slack on the blogging front! everything is getting more hectic and more busy! But I'm still really enjoying all the different projects!

Fashion Design
designing so far is going pretty well, but I feel I need to work more on samples and build more on my research, to show my thought pattern. I really cant wait to start making the garment to see what I end up with!!!

Buying and Merchandising
Ok so far so good on the buying and merchandising front, we recently got set a new project, of which we have to pick a fashion clothing store (-I chose 'Zara') to write a report on...I find the whole world surronding buying and merchandising really interesting but I feel I find that I dont fully understand everything to do with it, but hopefully this will come with time!

Illustration
I'm really enjoying doing my illustrations by hand for the design project as I think slowly but surely my own style of illustration is coming through and I'm finding it much easier to produce them.
However I'm still finding illustrator on the computers difficult to use, I mean I know the basics but I'm no whizz yet!....but as they say 'practise makes perfect' so thats what I'll do!

Lectra

So far we have had two lessons on Lectra.. we have created our patterns ready to print out next lesson (I'll add a screen print of my pattern on Friday) The whole process again was pretty simple and I seem to be catching on much quicker then I expected! We just had to mirror each pattern, change sizes, add seam line and name each piece!
